A tip-out is a share of your tips you hand to other staff at the end of a shift. It is often figured on sales, not on tips. On $1,000 in sales, a 3% tip-out is $30 no matter what you were actually tipped.
When your employer requires it, a tip-out follows the same rules as a tip pool: no managers or owners, and no kitchen staff if you are paid with a tip credit. Some states add limits. In Washington, no one can be required to contribute more than they received.
Tip-outs you pay lower the tips that count toward your minimum wage. If you keep a record of what you paid out each shift, the paycheck checker can use it.
